Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa
Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh
Saadh Sangat Ji,
As the Christian festive period is upon us currently, let us not forget the importance of this month in the Sikh calendar. There is perhaps not a single day in this month during which the Sikhs did not lay down their lives and were martyred. The tragedy is that the majority of us do not know the sacrifices made by our forefathers, and remain ignorant towards our blood soaked history. Guru Sahib did not differenciate between his sons and the rest of the Khalsa, because he considered us all his children. Today we need to look at ourselves and ask the question ” Are we really worthy of being called Guru Sahibs Children. Are we the fortunate ones for whom Guru Sahib sacrificied his all?” Guru Sahib isn’t expecting us to make the same sacrifices and neither does he ask for that. The very least we can do is get closer to the Gurus teachings, lets all take the first step, then Guru sahib will take us towards him by himself.
So while we are observing the Christmas holidays, lets not forget the lions of Chamkaur and Sirhind. At Chamkaur a group of 40 Sikhs repelled the onslaught of an army which numbered 1 million. The sikhs wreaked havoc amongst the enemy and the casualties ran into thousands. How amazing were those Gursikhs, how much could we all learn from their jeevans. It is important to note that even in the heat of the battle the Sikhs never once missed their nitnem.
Lets cast our mind back to the thandha burj in Sirhind where a Grandmother and her 2 young grandchildren are left to brave the cold weather conditions. On top of which the authorities are hell bent on converting the young children. However the young sikhs did not falter and rebuked any efforts of the mughals. Both were eventually bricked alive, and Mata Gujri breathed her last upon hearing about their martyrdom.
This is part of our heritage, there are many more incidents throughout our short history, whereby Sikhs have shown this type of valour and attained martyrdom.
To mark the martyrdom of the Sahibzaadey Bhai Surjit Singh recited kirtan and also did some vichaar on the shaheedi of the Sikhs. It’s once again a speech that is hard hitting as is Bhai Sahibs usual style.
