The Gurdwara sahib now has in stock the two-disc copies of Sadda Haq. There is an english audio DVD and the original Panjabi version. The Price of the DVD is £10.
Our Benthi to the sangat is to please buy the original, regardless of which outlet they buy the DVD from.
Many of you will be aware of the difficulties the makers had in releasing the movie in Panjab earlier this year, they faced opposition from the censor board, the police, and the state government. The excuse branded by the opposition was that the movie and the dialogues could once again cause trouble between Sikhs and hindus in the now "peaceful" Panjab. Perhaps they were scared of the film exposing the way human rights were openly abused by those in power in the 80's and 90's. The movie is not against any community or even anti-India, as is being protrayed by many pro-India media outlets, it is simply against a corrupt system.
We should support the makers by buying the original as they have dared to speak the truth about the events of that dark period, although many would argue they have merely scratched the surface in terms of exposing the human rights violations that occurred. We want to encourage other producers/directors to be bold enough to make movies on such real life subjects, and be brave enough to tell the truth. However, if people buy pirated copies and don't turn out to the cinemas to watch such movies, then clearly makers will shy away from these subjects. Bradford was very fortunate to have daily screenings of the movie at Cineworld, and to continue to benefit from this in the future we need to show our support.
If you would like to purchase a copy from the Gurdwara sahib, then please contact a sevadaar at the Gurdwara library or email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 07957373714.
Bhai Kulwant Singh visited the Gurdwara Sahib in June, to talk about his Roko Cancer Campaign in Panjab. Bhai Sahib is involved with work in Panjab by setting up cancer detection camps in villages throughout Panjab. He appeals to NRI's to sponsor the camps in their village's to aid the fight against cancer. It is a very noble cause, and one which the sangat and rural population of Panjab need educating on. For more details on the campaign please click here.
Please listen to the speech by Bhai Kulwant Singh below:
Bhai Ravi Singh of Khalsa Aid was able to visit the Gurdwara sahib ji on Sunday, and was ble to brief the sangat about the various projects Khalsa Aid are currently working on and also speak about why the organisation was set up and what obstacles they have faced since setting up.
Bhai Sahib spoke about the work carried out in Haiti, Kenya, and UttaraKhandh (India).
There was a short video shown which was about the projects involving the families of the shaheeds.
Bhai sahib stressed the point that it is the collective responsibilty of the Panth to look after the families of the shaheeds. The Singhs and Singhniyan who have made the ultimate sacrifice have done so in the belief that the Panth will look after their families after them, but unfortunatley we have neglected our duties. Some of the families are living in extreme poverty as the sole bread winners were the ones that became shaheed.
We have uploaded the audio recording for you to listen back to:
The Gurdwara was also able to present a cheque of £2800 to Khalsa Aid which has been collected by the sangat at the Gurdwara Sahib
